How to Validate a SaaS Idea Before Writing Code

A disciplined validation framework founders can use to reduce product risk before development starts.

Start With an Economic Hypothesis#

Define who pays, why they pay, and what triggers repeat usage. If you cannot articulate this in one paragraph, your venture is still in concept mode.

Define the Workflow, Not the Feature List#

Buyers pay for workflow outcomes. Map the current manual process and isolate where failure, delay, or cost appears.

Validate Demand With Structured Interviews#

Interview at least 15 target users in the same segment and track repeated language patterns. Consistency is your demand signal.

Test Willingness to Commit#

Use paid pilots, letters of intent, or pre-commitments. Interest without commitment is not validation.

Build a Risk Matrix#

Rank assumptions by business impact and uncertainty. Resolve the highest-risk assumptions first, then move to architecture planning.

Build With Structured Execution

If you are ready to move from insight to venture execution, start with an alignment conversation.
